Paul Soden creates stunning bespoke handmade furniture from long standing sea groynes found along the South East English coastline. The shapes and colours of these weathered timbers have been an inspiration to create a cast array of furniture for the home and garden.
The name Second Seed springs from the theory of wood originating from a seed. Working with reclaimed timbers gives that wood a second life in a different form: a Second Seed creation.
The timbers, which are mainly hard woods (including Oak, Opepe and Purple Heart), historically significant as English sea defences are now being replaced by shingle banks and concrete breakers due to cost and environmental changes since the 50s and 60s.
Just as each tree is individual, so every piece of wood is unique. It is possible to replicate the design and dimensions, but the exact features and charecteristics will never be the same with any two pieces.
All comissions and designs are very welcome. Please feel free to contact me at any time and visit the workshop that is located in the rural South Downs near Lewes.
